Small tools and equipment are easy to lose track of. In hospitals for example, doctors and nurses can forget where a tool is located or what equipment a certain room contains. This problem can be solved with the StickNFind Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) stickers.
Our system keeps track of all the equipment in a room and alerts the user when a certain tool leaves the room. For example: Several items are in a room, you can see these items and select the ones that need to stay there. Whenever one or more of these items leave the room, an alarm will be triggered on these devices. Devices which are not necessary can leave the room without triggering an alarm. This way, the hospital personal can be sure that the room will always contain certain tools and equipment.
Thanks to the BLE Device Detection application it is possible to scan the environment for tools and equipment. If BLE stickers are not bound to a room, they will be able to be located thanks to the scan function. This shows all BLE stickers that are nearby with some extra information like their distance. The user can manually trigger the alarm of these BLE stickers to locate them through sound and a small light.

Most visually impaired people are able to memorize only a few trajectories with sufficient detail. It would be a big step forward if the amount of trajectories could be expanded by using a vision based navigation system, which will be described in this paper. By using the opencv library, a route is split into segments from which features are extracted. By training a Support Vector Machine (SVM) with these features, this SVM will provide data that will be inserted into a Markov chain. This automate will then use all the collected data to estimate the position of the user on route.

Tetris – multiplayer netwerk spel

Tetris is een spel tussen twee personen, waar het de bedoeling is zo lang mogelijk te overleven. Spijtig genoeg wordt je dit niet makkelijk gemaakt aangezien de andere speler continu jouw spel probeert te saboteren.

Dit spel werkte in eerste instantie enkel via LAN maar in 2015 herschreef ik een deel hiervan zodat gebruik gemaakt kan worden van een server. Het spel kan daardoor nu online gespeeld worden.

Vaste Flitscamera applicatie

Als een van mijn eerste projectjes in Android schreef ik een applicatie die gebruik maakte van een database van alle vaste flitspalen. Via de huidige locatie, snelheid en richting van het toestel kon de gebruiker gewaarschuwd worden tijdens het rijden.

Developing a mobile application with the aim of automatic recognition of certain patterns on photographs taken with smartphone’s digital camera. These patterns can be bar codes, numbers and letters, special characters or concrete objects. The project was a track and trace solution, allowing parcels to be picked up from and delivered at a certain address. A parcel was provided with a bar code. After scanning a bar code with the smartphone’s camera, the code was sent to a backend which then returned all information about the scanned parcel to the user.

The application can be used by employees (a courier) and customers. The employee will receive an account and password which can be used to access more features. One of these features is scanning packets allowing them to be tracked via GPS. The customer can then use Google Maps to track and trace his package and to see where it has been.

During the project we were asked to work out the following tasks:
– Elaboration of a preliminary study
– Prepare the necessary technical and functional analysis based on the objectives and the results of the preliminary study
– Developing a specific demo / POC (Proof of Concept) based on the previously prepared analysis
– Testing the achieved result and adjusting where necessary

Sportkampenbeheer

Sportdienst Herzele - 2010

De sportdienst van de gemeente Herzele organiseert ieder jaar gedurende de Paas- en zomervakantie sportkampen. Tot heden gebeurde dit allemaal handmatig via de telefoon. Daarom werd ons gevraagd een website met een achterliggende applicatie te ontwikkelen.

De achterliggende applicatie werd volledig geschreven in Java en laat de werknemers van de sportdienst toelaat toe volgende taken uit te voeren:
– Creëren / wijzigen van gebruikers en sportkampen
– Genereren van rapporten, officiële documenten, facturen, …
– Herinnering mails
– Wijzigen van instellingen (mail server, kleuren, …)

De website biedt ouders de mogelijkheid om hun kinderen te registreren en hen in te schrijven voor sportkampen. Anderzijds kunnen ze ook een lijst raadplegen van hun reeds ingeschreven kinderen en kunnen ze hun gegevens aanpassen

Uiteindelijk werd onze applicatie gekozen als de beste uit de tientallen andere applicaties van medestudenten.
